Couch Potato Therapy

by Chris Sorrenti

low on money
out of cigarettes
smoking butts to ease withdrawal
curses counted rather than blessings
scan the tube for the best excuse
not to dust/vacuum
never on one channel very long
each an uncomfortable reminder
in how lacking of life I am
though not worried
having been here before
the birthplace of accomplishment
inactivity’s and restless’ unwanted child
no longer lying on the sofa
TV far away
sitting at a keyboard
banging words
into my electronic psychiatrist
on call 24 hours a day

Great visual, Chris. I can just see you (or me) sitting at the opposite ends of this poem.

"sitting at a keyboard banging words into my electronic psychiatrist on call 24 hours a day" It's good being able to talk to a computer, they don't give you any attitude or ask stupid questions... usually. :) Great read, Chris. -Kat ox

Chris I love this. Except for the cigarette part, I can sure identify. Aren't we all just a bit addicted to the keyboard madness?

"...never on one channel very long each an uncomfortable reminder in how lacking of life I am though not worried having been here before the birthplace of accomplishment ..." ... Yes, I've been exploring your library, Chris. I felt that these lines expressed something much deeper than the "electronic psychiatrist." Sadness and depression are the undertones of this poem, but you marvelously led us away from such and turned it amusingly honest. Great write. :)
