Doldrums

by Chris Sorrenti

 photo knightRED.jpg

I’ve traversed this ghostly city
too many times
alone
save the majestic stallion I ride
capable of such speed
when given a clear path
now
no more certain than I
which way to go

how is it
we’ve landed here again?
a maze of streets without names
snaking beneath us
as if playthings
for some mischievous god
my mount spooked
almost to the point of throwing me

yet somehow
always finding our way back
to the sea of poems
where that same colorful sailboat
patiently awaits us

fortunate for all of us, that you do like that mount! An exciting poem, as fitting today as it was back then.

Really like the picture. It rolls with the poem pretty damn well.

...and what poet would not be an adventurer! Nicely done, Chris.

Wonderful images, even without the photo. Man with the added power of the steed always sends me. :) The idea of the maze and finding ones way - classic, yet exciting through your unique words. Thank you.

I found this very vivid in imagery and had my own picture in my head. I just recently had an encounter with a wonderful horse in the desert and indeed a steed is a poetic breed...nice write. smh

Great imagery and loved the lines "a maze of streets without names snaking beneath us as if playthings for some mischievous god." Reminds of child-play with train sets, or cars or any number of set-ups in which we overlooked the world we built and pretended to be giants looking down upon it, wondering what havoc we might have at its expense. And the port you've chosen "among the sea of poems" - just wonderful stuff!

Quite an analogy! Poetically you don't seem to stay in the doldrums long!

Ah, the sweet triumph of the creative spirit over the doldrums! How blessed we are that you have ridden that steed into our eyes, ears, and hearts, my friend. My wish for you is many more fantastic rides. I look forward to them. Thank you, Chris.
