Hippocratic Oath

by Chris Sorrenti

I swear by all the blades of grass in the field, stars in the sky
I will forge ahead in my own journey of growth and creation
and in so doing help as many others along the way
regardless of the turmoil around me in that a minority
unable to take responsibility for the part they too must play
will give in to their personal demons
manipulate, maim and kill fellow human beings
and even themselves on the flimsiest of excuses, irrational of reasons
despite all this I will stay the course of my purpose for being here
regardless what ailment or disease pains me
strive with all the physical and spiritual strength this body can muster
so that when I finally leave this world
it will have in some small way been improved

Hi Chris. Seems too often we promise according to our hopes, and perform according to our fears. I'm all of what you have written here. Swear me in!

AMEN! What this world needs is more who will take this kind of oath. Great writing!

If only we could make everyone live by this code.....but starting with ourselves is enough at times....... Interesting was just reading about Hippocrates, his cure for hysteria? Sex... what a wise man!

...and small improvements to the lives of others are likely to result in big improvements to our own, whether these behaviours are the result of conscious attitudes or not, and provided of course, this is not the motivation :>
Fine sentiments genuinely expressed here, worthy of reflection and accommodation.

A great oath to adhere to, Chris. I, too, wish to take the oath ... one left hand on hip, right hand held up, I solemnly swear to try and leave this world a better place, and for me having been blessed to be part of something much bigger than me. "... and even themselves on the flimsiest of excuses, irrational of reasons despite all this I will stay the course of my purpose for being here ..." So well said. Thanks for this, Chris. :)

Thank you for putting into perfect words what many of us choose in our minds and hearts. This will be my new morning greeting to the day. And is my newest favorite. Just perfect, Chris, perfect.

Happy POTBD!!! (poem-of-the-birthday, of course!) Congrats on both counts!

Now that's what I call sending a message. Be it the hood or the cosmos, this one echoes through the hallowed halls and leaves those proverbial timbers well shivered. Double pat on the back, Pal.

beautiful poem, chris, where do i sign up? a moving and heart piercing method of moving the masses. many of us think this way, and you bring this ideal to life so vividly for me, and i'm sure many others to go beyond thinking to ACTING with intention in all things... congrats on POTD, and happy birthday to you! chris this is absolutely beautiful poetry. the last line instills chills in its readers. i believe this is one of your masterworks. well-said, and i am hopeful in spite of all around me that these goals can be fulfilled by those of us who are strong enough to fight their demons.

*Raises my right hand.* "I swear by all the blades of grass in the field..."

If only we would, if only humans as a whole would adapt this. Great to see your heart.
