rapunzel

by Frankie Sanchez

you're unraveling on the inside and it's typical,
comes as no surprise,
you're no mystery,
growing out your hair for all the boys
to climb and climb and climb
with nymphomania and bare hands,
they hear you loud and clear
siren
stereo
typical
growing out your hair where others
typically grow a soul
and at your best, at your very best,
your rendition of love
is nothing more than dramatization,
a late night, early morning televised reenactment,
everything how it should be, would've been, might be,
if the boys with hands knew how to surrender,
if your hair could hold their weight,
if pretty were a weapon, they'd be stricken,
if the boys had not eyes to see, they'd believe
in your un ra vel ing .

This put a cool image in my head when I read it - of a hollow girl with boys trying to climb up her insides but slipping to the bottom. Nice job.

Great theme and cleverly treated.

Frankie, I love the way you took Rapunzel and used the hair as an mirror image of a girl who had everything but a soul. Artfully written indeed. ~~ Kyle Anne

there is so much here, the story only a backdrop to the imagery and ties you bind in this piece...so much to love, but my fav. lines: "you're unraveling on the inside and it's typical," (great opener!) AND "if your hair could hold their weight," (such depth) AND "growing out your hair where others/ typically grow a soul" (this last line I noted here caught me like a net, and I could not let it go--how refreshing)...so much to ponder here, great read, peace, jewels

wow. i have never thought of repunzel in such a deep fashion but you built it up here and delivered. i think this is probably one of your better writes for sure...given a simple concept and turning it into so much weight. good stuff fs!

Reminds me of a few girls I've known over the years too. Thought provoking delve into the superficiality of long hair.

You've done it again, Frankie. God, this one is beautiful. I espically love the ending with the "un ra vel ing". Very clever. I've always been a fan of twisted fairytales. I've got a few in my faveorites. Again, amazing. And thanks for the awesome read. -Liz
