Bystander Of Life & Useless Reminders

by Maria Terezia Ferencz

And the Obituary Read:
Bystander of Life dies of Apathy at the age of 71

"bystander of life
dies as time
passed by
in a series
of useless reminders"

Call pharmacy, dog to vet
doctors appointment-don't forget
cable company, courtesy call
put the dog out, sweep the floor
early to bed, early to rise
don't bother to look with open eyes

I wake up thinking is this all?
This is life?
There must be more
More I am forgetting
I must write IT down

NOTE TO SELF:

Is this all we are meant to be
please say there is more to humanity
leave a reminder feed the poor
so much to give, give some more

Care about another man
offer love, lend a hand
lend a shoulder
shed a tear
remember another
simply care

Use more these words
thank you, love, please
offer true advice
don't just appease
lie much less
truth much more
remind me what
my heart is for

keep on reminding thru the day
Go on noting another way
forget the selves so locked within
remember others, let them in

I would have this be
my reminder of me
sticky note of self
I would wish to be

the to-do list is quite effective with the rhyme scheme, and so are the short lines, the simple language...favorite lines -- use more these words....forget the selves so locked withinI like to remind people that we won't lie on our deathbeds wishing we had finished our "to do" list. so often, i play with my kids instead of cleaning house, because it will just get dirty again in 2 hours. this serves as a reminder to not always be the robot, but to stay connected with others, to engage in life. powerfully stated. put it on the fridge! Well, this is postponing the real trial which is not in the yesterday we live every day, rather let it 'happen', intentionally or unintentionally. The life is in 'living', and not happening, like a true four dimensional being in the space time continuum and not in the dead time or in its projection. Yes, writing helps us to remember. We ought to add more and more associations to remember to remember, more and more.Associations are energy sources. I like the assertive tone in the authors note but what eventually helps is undoing indulgences, stoppages of waste, and conflict with our own undesirous selves. ACTION in other word, from moment to moment. I like the whole idea of this poem, rather the conflict which procreated this piece.

Very thought provoking, so many times we do forget what is important while chasing those everyday small things we think seem important. Sweating the small stuff we forget the big stuff, but you remind us here to use the important small words, "thank you, love, please" and really mean what we say. Excellent. smh

Maria, as I age, I use so many of those words (in the note to self) all the time. I may not be in the fast lane, but I can still be of use, rather than an excuse of me. Thanks for the reminder. Beautifully put into words. ~~ Kyle Anne

Fantastic poem - well developed (dare I say - mature!!!), great flow and rhyme. Just totally enjoyable to read. Also very inspiring - there are no useless reminders here, my dear. A fine note to self!!! POTD

I've thought this too so many times: I wake up thinking is this all? This is life? There must be more More I am forgetting I must write IT down, and then I remind myself that life is but a test of spirit, and my greatest asset is to write IT down, all of it...the good, bad, exciting, and mundane. Thanks for the mental Post-It note Maria. :o)

Right on. This is beautifully done. Your notes are my prayers too.

Hi Maria. Like how you've fomated this. Such a desire to quash the boring details. I relate to that but, if life were measured by accomplishments, most of us would die in infancy. Remember, destiny is made known silently. Great write. Thanks.

This is wonderful. I hope my obit is not like the first one you wrote about. I think everyone should write down a "to do" list similar to ours! Great write!
