The Color Yellow by Kristina WoodhillThe lance that drove straight
With heart full and lungs great
Hit the mark, hands pushing metal
Pierced the center targets yellow
Its not a cowards color after all
Yellow shirt worn seven times
Oer arms trained and back primed
Legs of steel climbed each hill
Leveled out the Alps big chill
No, not a cowards color after all
The shadow of the lance is gone
A new pride roars and comes on strong
Well see which lion takes the crown
Shakes his mane, stands his ground
Not a hint of coward there at all
This renewed challenge feeds the ride
Pumps the soul, swells the pride
A candle lit with fresh new tallow
A brand new flame! Reach for the yellow!
Its not a cowards color after all!

Author's Note: Lance Armstrong retired this past year after winning 7 Tour de France races. Quite a phenomenal athlete, overcoming major health issues. The yellow jersey, after each stage of the race, is the leader's jersey and ultimately, the winner's.

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 07/25/06 at 07:13 PM Not a coward's color afterall. I like how you've worked the lion into this piece, its coat a brownish yellow. Highly original and evocative read Kris!
Posted by David R Spellman on 07/26/06 at 01:05 AM A wonderful tribute to Lance Armstrong - that perennial Tour de France winner who struggled with so many personal problems and was always derided by so many. Missed but never to be forgotten - a legend in his own time. Great write!

Posted by Julie Adams on 07/26/06 at 02:07 PM a wonderful tribute embedded in a poem that shows and tells, in vibrant yellows and measured rhyme, the power of your poetics...a pleasure to read, congrats on making the list with this one...peace, jewels
Posted by Mary J Anna on 07/26/06 at 07:31 PM This is powerful and I particularly appreciate it for its timeliness as I've just finished a book that unveiled different meanings for different shades too, lighter yellow as optimism, opportunites, wisdom and intellect, with more pastel shades indicating the power of ideas, spiritual development, even psychic abilities and clairsentience (Ted Andrews on the aura). I see these wise and courageous tones of yellow, and I am very grateful for your confirming perspective. :)
