And I was going Where?

| Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 01/27/07 at 06:48 AM Powerful and succinct, this poem has a finely crafted, precise feeling of an emotion conveyed, a statement made. It is as if it were made of equations, the "you" and "I" being the same, the "we" different. The internal rhyming, "I", "eyes", "why", "lies" add a cumulative power. And the answer is zero... (or more precisely "Meaninglessness") Some people might stop there-- as it is so good, but the last three lines are my favorites... the intimacy of the you and I of the beginning here illustrated in luscious imagery. Just beautiful,
and musical lines... "the sheet-field of bed" is original and emotive, and the last line equation so perfectly and enticingly describes what is not there, in so few words! |
