Chemistry

by Anne Engelen

Originally two totally different components:

  you        and         me

Heated by love, our souls melted into one.

Changing their properties,

forming an unprecedented solidity.

No diffraction, nor diffusion

can disengage the original elements from this compound.

Once you and me.

Now forever “us”

through simple chemistry.

Very clever romanticism.

This is very cute and clever, not as cliche as the idea of "chemistry" can be. I like it! ~Nita

Long ago one of the giant chemical corps. (DuPont or Dow) used the slogan "Better Living Through Chemistry". You described the real thing, Anne, and it feels like love. Karl

Potent poetry, Anne. You've become the alchemist, by the sting of cupid's arrow. Pe4ce...

"simple chemistry" - ah yes and as JD suggests, who is a better alchemist than the lover who simply IS LOVE. Beautiful as always Anne. :-)

I have to agree with Karl that you've really put forth here the true chemistry of better living. Excellent!

Really wonderful chemistry. That is what a committed couple should be -- complimenting and completing each other. Reminds me of scripture which says two (man and woman) become one! Wonderful writing!

Clever and touching poem, Anne. It speaks volumes about intimacy and commitment in just a few words. Well done, my dear.

poems like this just MAKE you want to be in love. a gorgeous and scientific breakdown of something that is so much bigger than science itself. it's so chemistry class to read this that it feels like i should have my nose in a book with two pretty faces looking back at me. awesome poem anne.

Birds outside my window tweet sweetly in agreement to the wonder-chemistry of your poem, Anne ... much like the golden azures of the day. What delight it is to find you POTD! I adore the simplicity of your chemistry ... *knuffels

Posted by Maria Massarella on 11/07/07 at 08:24 AM

eh ... not that the golden azures 'tweet' but that they are in agreement for the wonder ... *smiles

Congrats on POTD Anne. Excellent choice! Witty analogy. I can see that I somehow missed this one when you posted it in 2004, so glad I finally got to read it. Adds to favourites. :o)

In perfect balance...the placement of you and me could not be better. I love and know the feeling-- of "changing properties" that make possible that unprecedented solidity"... the "forever" ""us""... so beautiful... and in my favorites. Thank you, potd!!
