Dox and the Boon Thereof

by JD Clay

Rusted mailbox half a mile

Down a canopied corduroy road

Tribulation

Hog-tied to the scarecrow's shade

Plow blade drawn to a platinum shine

Sassafras tea in a jug

Worry steeped in Saturday's bath

Crocheted pillows on the front porch swing

A fortune in your gentle touch

Evenings filled with fireflies

Lilacs

And the croaker's sanguine song

Fantastic!! If you are ever charged with being a poet this one will convict you for sure.

It feels...old farmish? I'm not quite sure how to classify the scene lol, but it is one that I am familiar with through books, and I love it very much. Great poem.

I agree with both previous comments, but especially when Kenneth's. Has a great country feel to it. You've outdone yourself again with this one jadi!

sounds like fondly reliving memories of old times...with a sigh and a smile, thinking life was good

This vivid view of both sides of the old farm took me back to the 40s, growing up in rural Oklahoma. My poem "agri cultured" is my much more shallow expression of this experience. Great write!

Sow! Is this poem ever nostalgic! In platinum gold! Sanguinely and beautifully expressed! Sentimental serenade to the past!

A rich image of simplicity itself...proof positive that art lives in every breath...Nice exposition Jadi :)

A beautiful, peaceful scene you paint here which would make anyone want to jump right into it to enjoy it all the more. Fantastique!

What an incredible picture you paint, Jadi! I could see it, feel it... this is so engaging and descriptive... I like how there is an element of age and sadness to the beauty of it... the two in one capture the essence. Plus, when you mentioned lilacs, I was nailed... my favourite, old-fashioned scented flower.... sigh! Beautiful!

with your words, acute, the pouring through our pores the hopes that in such elysium of back porches, we may bask in dreams and sway to idylls and idleness.

Great bucolic imagery here, jadi - it takes a bit of a sentimental turn in the second stanza, but not overly so - there's something quite soothing about this one - well done.... d:-)

Beautiful images that dance on a vintage-feeling verse. A sense of nature comes through on all the senses. :)

Enjoyed so much reading this bit of nostalgia again. Takes me back to Grandma's home (especially on my mother's side of the family).

Makes me think of my great grandmother's house. I want to fix it up but this gives me more appreciation of it's rusticness.
