you take you with you

by Michele Schottelkorb

you try, you fail

you try, you fail

white lies lace fairy-tale endings

(it’ll only hurt a lifetime)

weekday admonitions of devotion

cease with weekend reality checks

swollen eyes accompany sharp tongues

(I really do love you, but)                                       {sometimes love is not enough}

an excuse for an addiction for an angry truth...

we are who we are

and that’s all that we are

you can change the scenery

but you take you with you.

Try again.

I feel this deeply....painfully. *ugh* You bring it right to the surface & to the point. I like. :)

love is never enough and you have touched upon the ultimate trueism, and in a style all your very own and that is what makes you you.

How many times around the "you try, you fail" circle do we go? How long before the me I take with me doesn't fail? And finally, I'm afraid it's true, sometimes love isn't enough. What is? How do some couples make it? Such stark honesty, Michele. Blessings to you dearheart.

The condenscending tough love tone works well here. Clever also the simplicity yet profoundness of the title.

'sometimes love is not enough', well, I thought love was never enough in the absence of a greater understanding of the self and the other, leading from inside to the inside and not just on the surface. Understanding that, you are you and I love you as YOU and I am I and you love me for what I am but having accepted this , having accepted the acceptance, we shall struggle alone and in togetherness to grow.In the absence of this understanding 'you can change the scenery but you take you with you.' You, and your essence, your basic nature, now exposed despite the change in the scenery. Kill the hopes and I think thats the only safe way to refined survival.

amazing and frank, and it's so true that sometimes love isn't enough. Very well done and original in style.

a great poem, the message of encouragement and brutal honesty comes through very strongly. Great work :)

A philosophical and keen observation on the human condition!

Intuitive wisdom that makes one realize so much. I have changed my scenery many times... and yet it is still me whenever I look in the mirror. Exceptional writing! :)
