Like We Have Never Lived Before...

by Ashok Sharda

We are going to vanish one day
Without any trace

So why not
Live this very moment
Like we have never lived before?

The moments are lost

Are gone for ever
The moment you are in is right
Here and now

So why not
Live this very moment
Like we have never lived before?

The earth shall not stop rotating
On its axis
Nor shall the sun stop radiating
Its splendor

The heavenly bodies are bound to
Follow their prescribed paths
There’s nothing you can do
Other than to LIVE

So why not
Live this very moment
Like we have never lived before?

The laws are bound by the laws
To take their own toll
The moon is cursed
To feed upon you

The nature will not let you be
Nor will it let you choose
We have every thing to lose
Other than the moment we are in

So why not
Live this very moment
Like we have never lived before?

The time is bent upon to chase us
To our inevitable deaths
The process of life is
The process of death
So why not walk step in step
With the time?

Why not live this very moment
Like we have never lived before?

I like to think even if we vanish without a trace , that we won't without leaving some impact (however small it may have been)

A beautiful poem with a lovely song-like quality...I think maybe we should sing this around a campfire at Pathetic Fest to lift high our poetic spirits! :-) "We have every thing to lose Other than the moment we are in So why not Live this very moment Like we have never lived before?" - The question is 'why don't we ever live in this very moment'? Why do we live mostly in daydreams, pasts and futures when this makes no sense at all? I wish I could come up with a good tune for this, some harmony even...I'd sing it all day long as a reminder and hum it when I couldn't sing! Gorgeous piece of poetry my friend :-)

Ooooh, I'll sing harmony with Rula!! Infact, I'm with Rula all the way on this one. Ashok, this is probably my favorite piece of yours yet.

yes, being in the moment can be both difficult and rewarding ...yet what other time is there as we can never physically relive the past nor propel ourselves into the future .... good read :)

I really like the philosophy of this piece; adds new meaning to the expression Carpe Diem. I also like its flow and rhythm/repetition...quite lyrical. Hat's off to ya sir.

This is the philosophy of the "now" that I do best to remember and find it really helps in my life. Of course, sometimes the moment at hand is a tough challenge too, but then, it little bites, it's easier. And when it's beautiful, cherish it.

I like this poem, both for its succinct writing, its important message, and its easy accessibility (many of your other poems are very abstract). Very nice! JJ

A very straightforward and wise distillation.
