change. by Andrew S Adamsi have a couple of bucks in my pocket-
i wonder where these will end up.
there's some loose change in there-
it jangles awkwardy, when i walk,
these remnaints of fives. tens. twenties.
the change cant tell where it's been-
and i cant tell where it will land
i dig the ambiguous nature of it.
i keep mine in a bowl for
when bus fares come up short,
for when a bottle of soda taxes
itself and needs to
sweat off a couple of extra cents.
when change is imminent,
i see it as a blessing;
until the last penny sifts through
the hole in the pocket
and the awkward jangle turns to
the uncomforting silence,
when what was once bought is now Begged for-
and asking for the change
is not a sign of hope-
but a sign of loss-
and a reminder of just how quickly
things can change. 06/02/2004 Author's Note: i dont know if this works as a poem or not; i originally started writing it prose style, but it eventually got to the point of being broken like a poem. i dont know if it works.... comments crits?

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 06/02/04 at 04:58 PM It works great for me Andrew. I especially like the unique (innovative) descriptiveness of the first two stanza in regards to money. I like also that the word change (as in the title) has two meanings in light of the last two stanzas and how it closes off the whole poem. Cool! |
Posted by Melanie A Bennett on 06/05/04 at 01:55 AM I like it Andrew. Anything that you write can be considered a poem. :) It is YOUR poem...and it is good :) |
