everyday warriors by Michele Schottelkorba simple word, a kind gesture
a common bond, weirdoes unite
in this chaotic world
filled with menial labors of love, life and death
souls connect
friendships come to pass
and all is good
each day is a fight
to the finish or beginning
each moment sacred
to the everyday warriors
it is the little things that count
(yes, i think we could be friends)
and in the stream of vast existence
the wars of attrition
are worth fighting
yes,
i know we can be friends
do you believe in faeries?
i do, i do, i do
believe in you05/14/2004 Author's Note: originally inspired by the "occupations" of two of our fair members... it's about friendship and the truth that every day is a battle, and if you have good allies, well, you can't help but win...
also, the last stanza is a take off from peter pan's "i do, i do, i do believe in fairies..."... my daughter and i have watched the new one nearly 10 times in the last week!!!

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 05/15/04 at 07:32 PM WHOA! Adds new meaning to "in a nutshell." Fine job in summing up the values of friendship and support despite our ideosyncracies (weirdoes unite). Glad to be a friend and weirdo!

Posted by Rula Shin on 05/15/04 at 08:24 PM Oh the beauty of such bonds! What a lovely poem Michele, for it's the wierdos that make this life interesting!! Unite indeed!! Loved this!! :-) |
Posted by Laura Doom on 05/15/04 at 10:04 PM 'each day is a fight' - I wonder if this is to our credit or detriment? Whichever, this piece is, appositely, both simple and complex. |
Posted by Graeme Fielden on 05/18/04 at 01:06 PM Fairies and magic survive to help us overcome those daily battles - as long as people choose to believe, that is! Keep the faith Michele. An eloquent and lovely statement of idealism. ;) Well done! |
Posted by Susan Q Tomas on 05/18/04 at 03:43 PM From Jr. High on, I have always been in the circle of friends others called odd. What is most important is that we love each other and believe in each other. Very fanciful piece . . . and wasn't that movie a great version of Peter Pan! |
Posted by Max Bouillet on 05/18/04 at 08:47 PM This poem catches a glimpse of the nobility behind everyday warriors. It shows the drive needed to continue on and the need to believe. Great verse. |

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 06/11/04 at 11:29 AM in a world that lacks prejudgement, anything is possible and continually fresh, a blank canvas waiting our expression. Beautiful are these apples of words that fall not far from their nourishment and sate is the one picks one up and chomps. Beautiful are your words Michele because they are ever of the heart. |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 06/16/04 at 01:05 PM Your poem speaks my sentiments so well. It does at time feel like a war... entering into which is not even thinkable without friends... the peter pans and the shreks. Cool poem, Michele |
