Archaeology

by Anne Engelen

Buried

Underneath the sand of time

Ancient temple

Lost to the eye

With unseen patience and tender care

You removed the grains of sand

Exposing untouched layers

Vulnerable to light and air

Forgotten how to breathe

I inhaled the life you exhaled

Slowly unmummifying me

Bringing me back to life

'Slowly unmummifying me Bringing me back to life' My my, this beautiful therapautic piece is the process, rather the announcement of the completion of this mummification. I am happy.Yes, one has to die in order to be born again.

The layers to the past and rebirth are pulled away as this poem progresses -- I really like this one

Delicate patient construction yet so beautifully solid, the "inhale" and "exhale" of it gives the poem itself such life and genuine force.
