Aho! you gentle power!

by Glenn Currier

The glittering giggling daisies

that fell from your open hands

skipped your glee into our lives.

The pressing enormity

of your love turned our coal dark

into priceless diamonds.

The ocean of your generosity,

the tender tropics of your rain

flooded the desert of our pain.

The warmth and strength of your palms

spoke with the eloquence of psalms

and the blue electric arc of creation.

Aho! you gentle power

exuberance of amaryllis

mist of Great Spirit!

Farewell you man of courage.

The warrior of your truth reigns

in the regions of our fears.

To your turquoise skies

we send sadness on our tears

to sparkle in your brilliant eyes.

We can scarcely say goodbye,

for your tenderness haunts our hearts,

your sun clouded by our grief.

Yet, you have left us sons

and sisters and brothers

and believers and lovers.

So if we cannot speak farewell

hold our hands as we delay,

and listen as we say:

On eagles' wings bold and bright

soar this newest fearless flight

and shout your Spirit's splendid light.

In memory of Scott Huffmier

01/08/2004

Author's Note: My friend Scott Huffmier died last week. He was a young man, but had accompanied and helped this old man through some tough times and guided me through the most stunning spiritual experience of my life. Monday, 1-12-04 was his funeral and I was ill and unable to attend but a mutual friend read my poem and those gathered were touched and the poem seemed to resonate with them. Although I could not be present physically, I was glad my poem connected me spiritually.

a gorgeous tribute at a terrible time for you. I have found, at those times, that sense you have here of the flowering to the sky and the other-worldiness, which comforted me at the great losses. I hope it does you. The sense of something so beautiful beyond, where they wait for us to reunite when it's our time. Blessings, beautiful poem.

Wonderful tribute Glenn to a fallen comrade. Excellent native feel to this piece, taking into account the chosen vocabulary.

So sorry for your loss. It is a comfort that you had shared some time together and your lives touched each others. The effects show clearly in this touching and wonderful tribute.

A beautiful tribute to a person who could turn coal 'into priceless diamonds', with the vibrations of his mere presence. A very thoughtful farewell to a loving soul.

I find it so appropriate that you would with chosen eloquence and metaphor, portion tears welling in your eyes for each of us to sip.
