Aho! you gentle power!
by Glenn CurrierThe glittering giggling daisies
that fell from your open hands
skipped your glee into our lives.
The pressing enormity
of your love turned our coal dark
into priceless diamonds.
The ocean of your generosity,
the tender tropics of your rain
flooded the desert of our pain.
The warmth and strength of your palms
spoke with the eloquence of psalms
and the blue electric arc of creation.
Aho! you gentle power
exuberance of amaryllis
mist of Great Spirit!
Farewell you man of courage.
The warrior of your truth reigns
in the regions of our fears.
To your turquoise skies
we send sadness on our tears
to sparkle in your brilliant eyes.
We can scarcely say goodbye,
for your tenderness haunts our hearts,
your sun clouded by our grief.
Yet, you have left us sons
and sisters and brothers
and believers and lovers.
So if we cannot speak farewell
hold our hands as we delay,
and listen as we say:
On eagles' wings bold and bright
soar this newest fearless flight
and shout your Spirit's splendid light.
