I am just a platform.

by Ashok Sharda

I am

Just a platform.

I can see performers

In colorful costumes

Playing their respective roles

In their turns

Pleasing

Abusing

Provoking

Causing pain

Associations prompting the necessary cue

While there are many

Waiting for their turns

Back-stage.

I can see spectators

Of different hue

Occupying their respective seats

Praising

Enticing

Sneering

Hurling stones.

The shameful thing is

That I watch them perform

Disguised as me.

The disgraceful thing is

That they are all begotten of me.

Oh! they are all begotten of me.

"Life is but a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage..."-Shakespeare. in your case a whole cast of characters... quite a tragedy you paint here.. only you have the power to CHANGE...

i absolutely LOVE the form to this... it really stands out to me... the painted picture is very concrete too, in an abstract sort of way, portrayed very well... excellent piece... blessings :)

The platform... taken for granted even though it gives the players their moments. Do they ever stop to thank it? Do they ever kiss the tips of their fingers and press it to the very boards that have allowed them, or encouraged, their expression? This has startled me with its truth, how often draw so much from each other but do not recognize it...act as if it is all our own doing. This speaks of neglect.

Frighteningly nightmarish Ashok.

This is really interesting. I've been feeling philosophical today so it makes me wonder, if you are just a platform and the actions of those "disguised as you" are the only ones seen by spectators, do you really exist, or is your existence created by the interpretation of these actions? And if it is, then wouldn't ones existence as a person be a lie? We tend to remember people by actions they have done that were really kind or horrible. If someone did something out of character one day--lets say over reacted about something--whoever say them that day will identify them by actions that are not really "them" and it would be hard to break the spectator out of that view. Sorry for all this blather! It really made me think

The platform is the center and its insight is from an interesting perspective. It always looks up or out, but never down. It must be hard to never look down after witnessing the behavior of the players. Is the platform helpless? Can it effect change on the players? It seems a tad bit hopeless... trapped; taken for granted; and walked upon by fools that think they are important. Intriguing verse, dear friend! I will be thinking on it for quite sometime.

I think we can all see ourselves in this. The saving grace is that we see ourselves much harsher than others do. For your performance, accolades! From your audience, smiles of enjoyment!

what a deep perspective you've directed here. I like this :)

and each character dances as masterfully as its host.

You have certainly set the stage with this dramatic performance, Ashok. Revealing once again, as shocking as it might seem, we are the reflection of an all inclusive universe. Nice work. Peace...

I think that you had quite a bit of fun writing this one Ashok;and looking at the comments, you achieved your aim - to get people thinking...well done!

Hi Ashok, I am just a platform, it's very good. Yet, your right. Sometimes life seems that way, that is too many people like or want to cause more pain, than enjoyment. You might even say, there's a lesson here to be leanrt.

You present some interesting images to think on. What I mostly see in it is the concept of actions and/or fruits of creation that are regretted or unsatisfactory. Excellent, ponderous poetry.
