Hearing Sigur Ros

by Bruce W Niedt

spare, traveling on thin air

over land of frost and fire

brittle beauty, ready to shatter

any moment, stalactite ice

the voice, a snowflake

turns toward volcanoes

words meaning something

to glaciers and birds

organ chords erupt

rattle cliff-faces,

scrape at black lava rock

bank, swoon and settle

echoes careen off houses

into the harbor, taken up

by boats that fill their sails

with atmosphere

Sigur Ros is the best thing to ever come out of Reykjavik and your magnificent poetics depict their essence right to the core. Simply brilliant, Bruce. Better than any review I've read to date. Peace...

I get a definite Norse feeling reading through this and combining the images Bruce. I'm always amazed out how one art form so nicely inspires another.

Nice poem, beautiful word choices, I think your poem more musical than the recent release by Sigur Ros though. I was dissapointed by (). I prefer the music of the Scottish band Mogwai better.

Vibrant imagery, startling contrast of snowflake and volcanoes. A delicate intertwining of metaphors. Congratulations on POTD!
