I Will Be There

by Ken Harnisch

What winds may blow, I may not mind

But this I do, and will remind

I told you once, not long ago

I will be there; I will not go

And though there’s nothing promised me

Nor really could there ever be

That doesn’t mean I’ve blown away

I am here the same as yesterday

And should you return to briefly smile

And tell me that it’s been awhile

Then have to leave me with regrets

I’ll be the one who stands there yet

And swallows back his black despair

Still loving you, still being there.

Beautiful.... creating deep silences on this side of the screen.

Devotion, tenderly expressed. I especially like the use of rhyme, you've chisled it perfectly here!

Ken, I too like the rhyme. To me, it tells me that here is a loyal friend and lover, serious about commitment, but not so self-absorbed in the sadness, that he can't express the lightness of being. That is what makes the poem more interesting... the sadness coupled with acceptance mixed with light. Well done, my friend.

I agree w/Glenn.. this is a beautiful acceptance of what can & cannot be. The rhyme is magical and so is this writing. :)

Reassuring words for one and all.
