thunder does all the talking by Lacy D PhillipsFor love to be like thunder
I must fall like rain.
An opening act,
lightening is only a promise
of the thunder that must follow.
It leaves me blinking
to fill the holes left in my vision
by its brilliance.
It leaves me half-blinded,
waiting to feel.
Thunder isnt much to look at,
boiling out into the night
trailing along after lightning
as an afterthought,
slave to the ostentatious flash.
Love, like thunder, does not occur
of its own free will.
To fall like rain,
I must live among the clouds.
Theyre in competition
between themselves tonight,
each one trying to outdo the other.
Thunder lumbering after lightening
like a predator sure of the kill.
Sailors learn to fear the ocean
more than storm clouds in the east.

Posted by Agnes Eva on 05/28/03 at 06:03 AM cool extension of metaphor! i love this line "Thunder lumbering after lightening" great phonetics and a very vivid image. your italicized lines have an striking 'words of wisdom' effect |
Posted by Rommel Cruz on 05/30/03 at 01:55 PM wonderful poems. the italicized lines are used in great effect. just one minor thing, is it lightening or lightning? |
