Have you ever...?

by Anne Engelen

Have you ever sailed the winds of life

Â…the ones who take you to the other side of yourself?

Have you ever battled the wars

Â…the ones who try to destroy the very core of your inner self?

Have you ever dreamed the dreams

Â…the ones who make life seem so unreal?

Have you ever given birth to the screams of your soul

Â…the ones who are dying to be heard?

Have you ever taken time to discover

…to discover what really makes “you” happy?

Have you ever thought that God

just might have a terrible sense of humour?

WellÂ…?

Have you?    Have you ever??

Author's Note: To Maria Massarella I still think it's a great idea for a thread *wink*

Loved the thought on the sense of humor. Maybe it all depends on perspective, hmmm?

Have you ever read a poem that altered time? This one does. Good stuff, kiddo. Peace...

"Have you ever thought that God just might have a terrible sense of humour?" my best friend always says that it is a monical sense of humor. great poem. i like it :)

Great addition to the "Have you ever..." theme. Quite inclusive and philosophical. Have you ever...imagined writing the perfect poem that everyone thought was so? :)

Have you ever? This is an impossible question which if starts bothering, can lead one on the path of finding answers. The most difficult thing is to raise questions. impossible questions.

Of course I have. Excellent poem to remind me to examine my very soul...chilling closure: Have you ever thought that God just might have a terrible sense of humour? Well…? Have you? Have you ever??

I really enjoyed this, very thought provoking. Reminds me of a point in time when you just let all the incidental, trivial matters slide and start to think about what really is important

*Roaring Applause*... Wow... Yeah. I'd leave a whitty comment, if I could think of one. I love the open honest feeling of this, so tender, fragile yet strong. lol This probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but this is a Really Gripping Poem!

What a marvelous reminder that it is sometimes those "storms" that bring out the best in us - just gotta get the junk out of the way and find out what's real. And then, along with God, LAUGH at it! Anne, there's a durned good bit o' wisdom in these words!

Anne, it would seem you're growing in new areas; form being one. I like the way you are stepping further outside yourself, trying different ways of expressing your thoughts and images. Very good! - RCat

Anne, this is soooo powerful. I like the way you personify the dreams, etc. with "who" in the second lines of the couplets. This piece acts as an examination of conscience... for this reader anyway... Thanks for the help. This wonderful poem is one of my favorites of yours now.

yes, I have thought these things and whilst I am a man, still I have given birth to screams and dreams and they are oft interchangeable. provoking work, Anne
