Sacrificing Logic by David R Spellman
And the nomadic tribes prayed: Provide us herds to hunt and keep us free from harm. Let not the thunder deafen us nor lightning strike us down; lead us to lands flowing aplenty and we will offer you our blood even that of our own flesh from sons and daughters unspoiled you may drink of our homage.
And the settled peoples prayed: Bless these crops with rain and do not scorch them with drought. May they bear much fruit while our calves grow fat, laden with milk and meat for our bellies so that we may offer you a portion appeasing your appetite and showing our reliance upon the whim of your mercy.
And the consecrated priests prayed: Lord God, Father of all Creation forgive your people their transgressions, for turning their back to your wisdom. Accept these humble offerings, our first fruits of the fields and first born lambs which we offer here upon this alter scented with the sweet fragrance of incense so that it may be pleasing to you.
And Jesus of Nazareth prayed: Blessed are you Lord God, Father Almighty for through your goodness we have this bread and wine to offer harvest of the earth and work of human hands it is my body and blood, given up for you. Share this in my memory so that it may become your spiritual food. And when, crucified upon the cross we realize just how perfect this act of sacrifice became.
