Unanswered (slightly sexual) by Allan HaslindsDoes she know,
as the first push of April's warmth and light
trickles through a scratched bus window,
to wash over the bared shoulders
of the dapple in the cool vinyl seat ahead,
I think...
Does she know,
in her first blossom of independent youth,
too young to drink,
too old to be confined
to a classroom on this Tuesday morning,
I wonder...
Does she know,
with her quick coiffure of plastic barrettes
and a stretch floral headband,
both failing one single
chestnut strand at a time, glowing in the light,
I ask myself...
Does she know,
in her new cotton tank top, baby blanket soft
bought from a table 2 for 18,
stretching under teardrop dumpling breasts,
opening a thin girlish arm to show
an iris petal flash of skin and no bra,
I puzzle...
Does she know,
as the heady scents of honeysuckle
and an unidentified hair care product,
glide with sugary grace across 24 inches to my nose,
candy pink gloss caressing unaware lips,
I ponder...
Does this baby woman,
who will find herself unsure and preening hopefully
on pre-party Friday evenings,
with plans of coyness and pre-laid limits,
riding the bus to some appointment,
know that she is beautiful?

Posted by Karl Waldbauer on 06/02/04 at 04:04 AM You've done an excellent job of capturing the innocent budding sensuality of a young woman in this poem. I hope you're young enough to appreciate such things without being thought a dirty old man! |
