I am looking for an escape route from an escape route. by Ashok ShardaI am lost
In the labyrinth
Of escape routes.
Appearing on one
Disappearing on the other
Reappearing again
On yet another.
How do I stop? And where?
How do I escape? And where?
Hang on commands my intended self, meekly -
Complete this poem first.
But my legs are itching
For an escape
And I am tired
Of being tired.
The escape routes are dreamy
Which leads me nowhere
Nor does it arrives anywhere
But capable of holding the dreamer
And making him wander from
One escape route to the other
Sometimes
In the name of
A real destination. 04/06/2003 Posted on 04/06/2003 Copyright © 2025 Ashok Sharda

Posted by Betania Tesch on 04/06/03 at 05:02 AM we are so close to the path and yet it is hidden from us. the second step is harder than the first. the second step is heavier. |
Posted by JD Clay on 04/06/03 at 05:26 AM You have clarified the deception effectively, Ashok. This reminds me of the koan that states, "The idea that once you reach the other shore the raft can be discarded is ultimately not true. The raft IS the shore."
Peace... |

Posted by Rhyana Fisher on 04/06/03 at 09:42 PM hm, reminds me of the oft-quoted phrase, 'life is a journey, not a destination.'
the problem is that all escape routes eventually lead back to one's self. |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 04/07/03 at 03:26 PM I identify with the constant challenge of trying to make real the intended self while moving along the roads that inevitably take us it. But then... embracing the voyage as part of our human reality... Beautiful and well done poem, my friend. |
Posted by Karen Koser on 04/07/03 at 09:10 PM Yes, I know that feeling! Hopefully, you will be able to stop escaping..you will find a place where you won't have to escape. We all need to find that place, I think. |

Posted by Agnes Eva on 04/08/03 at 05:48 PM ...like one of those Escher drawings, you're wandering up downstairs and down upstairs, disappearing into one corner, emerging from the other. doesn't matter if there's a 'real' destination. keeps the brain cells popping fresh. |

"Which leads me nowhere Nor does it arrives anywhere But capable of holding the dreamer
And making him wander from One escape route to the other"
and at the meantime keeps you afloat!

Complete this poem first." I so like the way this folds into the poem... many a time I have been struck with inspiration, only to have my mind begin to pursue a multitude of other avenues in the midst of my seldom encounter with creativity.
