Return to the basics. by Ashok ShardaReturn to the basics -
My NAGUAL said -
When you are adrift the basics say- be here and now Moment to moment.
When you are here this moment there would be a you and a you pitted against you there would be a conflict Inevitable Let the war go on
The NAGUAL said - You know who is to WIN.
Return to the basics
When you are weak the basics say- be here and now Moment to moment.
The basics are adroit enough to make you ascend
Heights invisible The basics are masters of Creating oneness within The basics are skilful in Healing the injuries and pain The basics are competent of Pulling you out from a certain death
Return to the basics- The NAGUAL said
When you fall the basics will provide you Energies to climb back
the basics say-
Be here and now Moment to moment.
03/03/2003 Author's Note: I picked this from one of my journal entries. I need it more than any one today. I need to return to the basics.
By NAGUAL I mean the voice of the INTENDING SELF

Posted by Mara Meade on 03/03/03 at 04:58 PM Yes... a return to the Basics... to centre ones SELF and BE in the moment. I was thinking this just yesterday. |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 03/03/03 at 05:59 PM A very reassuring poem to read in the wake of another work Monday and killer cold temperature of -42 Celcius (with the wind chill factor) outside. :o) |
Posted by Betania Tesch on 03/03/03 at 07:38 PM I remember reading this, a few times actually, and yes I think it is essential. It's one of those primal needs that must be met before we can ascend. Thank you for reminding us all, dear. |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 03/05/03 at 05:01 AM The humility and vulnerability in this poem are quite beautiful. How fortunate you are, having NAGUAL to whisper in your ear and having the intention of your Self to be here now. Good poem, Ashok. |

Posted by Agnes Eva on 04/01/03 at 04:14 AM yes, Baba Ram Dass said the same 'be here now'. your poem becomes a mantra to trust in those basics. it's a heartening meditation. |
Posted by Jeanne Marie Hoffman on 08/14/03 at 03:14 PM Your poetry always brings such wisdom... |
Posted by Laura Doom on 10/06/03 at 07:11 PM We were beside ourselves to read this...
Do we really want to know 'who' will 'win'?
Each of your pieces is a challenge, absorbing, and provocative, given adequate energy levels on the part of the reader :o]
I I'd read this yesterday, I would have been expending more energy on SPANNER, who was refusing to eat. No contest. :o]
(SPANNER is a cat, and demands as much attention as I can produce from one can of food) |
Posted by Michele Schottelkorb on 10/26/03 at 05:38 PM i needed this poem today too... your amazing talent at breaking society's ills down and simplifying them awes me... thank you for your down-to-earth approach at poetry of life... you are inspiring... blessings :) |
Posted by Rula Shin on 09/02/04 at 01:22 AM "return to the basics" - return to your self. Intending self. Thats all I can think when I read this. Return to the basics. Why do I want to repeat this over and over? Why does this poem make me feel a twinge of emotion? Its like a chant that transcends the inevitable heavy-hearted notion of surrender to those other selves...surrender to anything but continuing the fight...attempting to live moment to moment. I love this piece Ashok. Truly. May you always return my dear. May you achieve that ultimate glimpse of LIFE you seek...and may you return to show the rest of us how to BE. This piece has touched me greatly. No thanks ;-) |
