Resurrecting The Muse

by JD Clay

Sagittarian night
Crisp and clear
Burlap sack over my shoulder
Shovel on my left
The summit seemed to call her name

By the sympathetic moon
Prismatic through my tears
I trudged beyond
The haunting shadows dragging
Denial up the slope

Into obscurity wide
And deep I dug that pit
Pitching loam like yesterday
Relinquishing my soul with
Each forsaken load

Below the rock and root
Sack and all
I laid her in that make shift grave
Then sifted each handful of earth
Dissecting greed from grief

Fixated on the placid mound
I sat estranged
Amidst a field of fern
Grappling with the azure dawn
Crestfallen and bereaved

But some things never change
I expect
She’ll forgive me
Just like the last time
When I threw her in the lake

Awesome JD. Vividly detailed, eerie and enrapturing and ending with that indomitable clever humor you always seem to be able to find and express. Excellent!

so it depends on which hat fits the outfith outfit...or whether or not you even care to wear a hat! If I was to find my muse hidden in my closet, she would get dizzy spills from all the changing of outfits I do on a day. (each mood a different outfit...now I know finally why my muse gets so tired sometimes *wink*) Great read JD!

Interesting take on the personified muse - clever ending too. It begs the question: does our muse really desert us, or do we "kill" it by our own actions (or even inactions)? For my own take on the subject, see "Demused" in my library (it's in my On Poets and Poetry file, I think!) d:-)

YEOWZA! This is like Pet Cemetary put to poetry. Chilling stuff jadi. :o)

That's exactly what I was thinking Chris. Nice poem, and as usual, very clever and chock full of your signature wit.

Fun poem Jadi. I think you got the wrong muse though, I think you got mine. I wondered what happened to her....Charlie

LOL! Very eloquent with quite a twist. Poor Muse! Seems like you've resurrected her indeed! A brilliant satire on being poetic!

Oh toooo wonderful! Big smile at the ending!

jadi, I tend to agree with Bruce about our deserting our muse... I never threw her in the lake, but I have buried her under paper all too often.... great read, my man.

We would break the very pencil that defines. makes linear and tangent the necessary joys and pains that elate our lives. what are joys without pains to keep them company. Tis an eternal dialogue. how your words provoke, Jadi, they revelie the eyes and ears to dawning. to musing.

Oh, the journey... and how sincere we are when we [think] we make the decision to end something that feels like a burden at the time. The last line absolutely knocked me over with laughter... gads, I so appreciate your honesty!!!!!

Your parched wit continues to inspire, and to help ponder the wonders and mysteries of the creative subconscious... Wonderful, one of my favorites - including "Skybluepink". Heart, star

I arrive late at many stations, but when I do, I often find the platform adorned with gold and gems such as this. But this time, my friend, i believe I have stumbled on a a veritable El Dorado! First verse to last, this jewel shines!

Jadi, I saw her (your muse) peeking around, shine in her eye...pretending to be fast asleep...I know she whispers in episodes of glee...

Posted by Elizabeth Jill on 03/06/09 at 01:51 PM
