Dropping the Crystal Ball

by David R Spellman

Splintered shards for slippers
No soft warming comfort held
Bled shattered dreams at their feet
Broken memories of missing lives
And apparitions never recognized
As passing fractured moments or
Wishes fading upon candles blown
Flickering out of extinguished hopes
Billowed pieces and leaden bared
Mindless transparent prisms glare
Enlightened never by failed affairs
Attempts to cast beguiling stares
Of rainbowed pasts we had shared
Promised nothings but what all lies
Amongst the wasted shambles there

what sad chaos... each line with its own shard... very well done.

A very powerful darkness, David. Superbly painted.

I didn't know whether to rate this poem as "Well Written" or "Memorable" because they are both. I just read it... in the aftermath of the shuttle disaster... and it works so well to express what happened on the 1st day of February over Dallas and the counties east of here. Thanks David.

How did I miss this one? Vivid symbolism on which to contemplate! A foreboding shattering exposed! Metaphysical in thought.
