Urban Birds by Glenn CurrierTwo alert black lights jerk and dart
lodged on the brilliant narrow knob above its ebony neck.
Its nail plunges into morsels,
between the crevasses
in the imperfect union of bricks.
Its slender bony frame
is muscled by urban warfare of thousands with equal hunger.
The minor mercies of the city,
a practical primer of Darwinism,
these black knights shimmer with pride.
The roaring asphalt plains
and their colossal battles yield
the heroic survivors that are the city. 10/26/2002 Posted on 10/27/2002 Copyright © 2024 Glenn Currier
