Epilogue

by Chris Sorrenti

     for Eartha
     2007 - ?

Oh
the things
we have no control over
when sometimes
it feels like everything

How the financial aspects
of growing old
growing old itself
put unforeseen constraints
on our minds and bodies
forcing one to make
unwanted decisions

The end of the road
for us
fifteen years
through good and bad
fat and lean
the death of a soul mate
who got the ball rolling between us
in the first place

Hopefully
the powers that be
can find her a new home
this friend of nine lives
to live out her golden years
already missed so badly
never to be erased from memory

How this other cat
who learned to fly
lifetimes ago
will someday also find himself
a guest of the powers that be
to finally lose those wings
and if so chooses
euthanized

It's so hard to lose a pet friend. "never to be erased from memory" is a true statement. Thanks, Chris.
