Rumble

by Patricia J Reed

There’s a thunderstorm
In my heart

With a sky full
Of dark clouds
And ominous rumbling

I am at a crossroads

Scared to let go
And step out
Into the storm
From under the veiled protection

White hot flashes
Of invective derision
Provoke anxiety

Thunder echoing
Mocking me
With your contempt

Stinging, pelting rain
Searing the manipulation
Into my sensitive skin
So deep
It changes my DNA

The unknown future
The most intimidating element
Whipping around me
Like a specter in the night

I look out onto wet grass
And wildly dancing trees
Wishing I
Was as free as them

What pain
Am I willing
To deal with

To keep
My sense
Of self

To love myself
Like the field
Loves the rain

I see a lot of myself in this one. Thanks for the reflection. :)

It's been a pleasure to discover your poetry and read through a lot of your library. Thanks!
