Silent drowning

by Patricia J Reed

I'm slipping under
A sea of responsibilities
And benign love
I'm invisible
As I gasp for air
Reaching out
Grasping onto promises
That fall like anchors
Off your lips
I couldn't want
You to see me
Anymore than I need
To take my next breath

You have a fine touch for brevity, metaphor well used. Love those last four lines.
