Breakdown of a breakup

by Laura Doom

A day like every other dawns
to break the spell, to bleed us dry
its sun, a serenade that spawns
the cyber cloud we seed with doubt
to fertilise our dreamscape drought
as cynicism suffocates the sky.

Free speech translates as data breach
revenge is sweet, but laced with poison
love is always out of reach
a heartbeat on the non-event horizon

Lose innocence, it makes no sense
if weighed against the evidence
our friends and lovers wear pretense
like lawyers citing self-defence
while secrets shared in confidence
are digitised as decadence
and truth defers to inference

A world that wants a signature
from those who deconstruct it
when everything is insecure
and no-one can be trusted

A day like every other yawns
it's just another me me meme
to crush our hopes, to feed us dawns
that promise flights of fantasy
then burn our wings as karma sings
ten thousand variations on a theme

A world of wonder analysed
confessed, repressed and expurgated
everyone is compromised
and nothing that we touch or taste
will satisfy until it's wasted

Author's Note: I can almost remember when writing was exciting, fiction as opposed to affliction.
I miss collaborations - I much prefer being in someone else's head.

Well put together reflection of our current cyber influenced world. I like the the rap beat and rhyme of the third stanza.

The rhyme schemes play a big part in this piece, really driving forces. I am fascinated by the intricacy of it. That third stanza reminds me of some of Dylan's songs/poems as he nailed his thoughts down hard. So many great lines. Good stuff. Thanks!
