It started with a litany
a menu that was eating me
rationale's self-serving rhyme
another place, another breakdown
echoed fears you know you'll find
parked up in the back of my mind

Why would you settle for corporate bland
when your dreams could take flight with a peregrine band?
But none of that's up for discussion
this story board is raw percussion
bass lines pumped to fuel the farce
in cars that drive guitars
to scale the wall of broken glass

Give me something, just one thing that I can believe
some appeasement that says we deserve this reprise
even though we both know you just give to deceive

Same day, different list
the musings of an optimist
eleven heaven-scented shades
singing shapeshift serenades
that decorate pretension
realized by reinvention
dreamer and delusion meet
when life resolves to bitter sweet

But that's a conversation killer
fruitless fiction packed with filler
flat-line fantasies at play
in drive-by sets and jumbo jets
a future perfect yesterday

I think you're gonna break it
I think you're gonna take it where
I just don't wanna make it
something more
than before

I think we're gonna bail it
I think we'll call it failure
so you can screw or nail it
to the floor
like before
