Convoy

by Chris Sorrenti

They assemble from all parts of Canada
With only one place on their minds
Converging in the hundreds – maybe thousands
Over a vaccination mandate for truckers
Crossing the border saying
Get the shots if you want to keep your job

One of the downsides of living in the nation’s capital
Tomorrow will not be a good day to go downtown
And though 90% of them are fully vaccinated
It’s the rest who refuse
The supply chain weakened enough as it is
That 10% represents a lot of goods

And as with any assembly
It’s not the main protest and speeches
To be concerned about
But the lunatic fringe with their own agendas
Who always embed themselves
To disrupt such events

I watched a quick video clip of the convoy, hoping nothing harmful happened later. This piece reminds me we south of our shared border are not the only ones having trouble convincing people it's worthwhile economically and socially to care about those around us. Well, sorry for the soap box comment. Good poem, Chris.

The lunatic fringe of humanity are those who wish to tell others what experiments they must submit their bodies to. What a sick, sad world those with a genius for chaos have forced us all into. I hope those who wish for human freedom are victorious and those who wish to be humanity's prison guards and slavers fail.
