Mars Calling

by Chris Sorrenti

Sometimes
my 300+ channel
WIFI TV system
is rendered useless
usually during inclement weather

A vital option
to help pass the time
when in pandemic isolation
and I might as well be
on another planet
and seems even my muse
has abandoned me
off doing her own thing
in some far away galaxy

No matter
I have Internet
to stay in touch with the outside
...my home world
but often
even they don’t want to talk to me
not so much out of spite
just preoccupied
with their own interests and issues

At least I’ve learned to work the PVR
set up to record my favorite shows
in repeat fashion
so I can zoom through commercials
catch up on what’s been missed
in the past 24-48 hours

And when even the Internet is down
as it sometimes is
still have my trusty AM/FM clock radio
to while away the hours
with music
informative conversation

Maybe it’s time
I took up a new hobby
candle making?
building rocket-ships?
as I used to
in now what seems like
a past lifetime
on a not so distant planet

So you probably know another Mars Rover is touching down today. This one has an added small drone that can actually take photos of the lander doing its thing. Cool! and a nice distraction from what's going on on our planet.
