Intensive Care

by Chris Sorrenti

Each night
just before bed
the battle continues
routine repeated
and often
as Winter progresses
during the day
the war against
life giving
but artificial
furnace’s breath

Aloe Vera applied
in layer upon layer
to hands
elbows
heels after
emery board scrub
occasional
facial dandruff

Till Spring's humidity
arrives
rescues that
surrounding
outer organ
for another year

Oh, I relate to this with splits in thumbs next to nails in winter - pain!! Lotion, lotion, lotion. Drat that "artificial furnace's breath." Thanks, Chris.
