Man Without A Blood Type

by Chris Sorrenti

All through Life
wandered I
in youth
paid little heed
though as the years progressed
wondered I
the letters
and + vs. –

Could be embarrassing
thought I
would the paramedics
in emergency
know how to read
my red cells
to give me more
but of course
they would

So why contemplate
or worry about
something so personal

Last trip to Dynacare
the GP specifically requested
on the form
to know my blood type
for curiosity's sake if anything
although sugar
down to 7.2 – an improvement
the part about
my kind of plasma
curiously slipped through

The doctor offered
to make sure for next time
but I said not to bother
no longer concerned

And so I remain
a man without a blood type
to continue through Life
perhaps never to know

Now this is unique. I like knowing, I guess, for various reasons. In a world where we seem to know every bit of minutiae about ourselves and others (Facebook :)), definitely unique. Ha!
