Fridge Magnets

by Chris Sorrenti

30 years of collecting
some from when Jason was just a little boy
now he sometimes likes to turn them upside down
while waiting for his tea or coffee to boil

Jack-o-lanterns and super heroes
calendars with company names from various years
some long since gone out of business
Dial-A-Bottle which bought out 2-4 Delivery
a few years back
we have advertising magnets for both

two with haikus in tiny font
from a Trinidadian poet friend
I met on Facebook
in return
sent her a copy of my Reflections In A Time Machine

And always a good supply of writing pads
pen placed between the pages
to add another item to the grocery list

On our third fridge
as of today
we’ll leave it bare for now
as the newness sinks in

What fridge magnets will it accumulate?
as it lives out the years
each decoration with its own unique story to tell

A unique history of artifacts gather on fridges. Of course the tiny haiku sound charming. This makes me smile with nostalgia. Thanks, Chris!
