Comfort

by Richard Vince

Her home is homeliest in
The gentle light of a late spring sunset:
The dull glow of red brick surrounding
Golden glass giving a window on
The western sky.

She is dressed for comfort,
Cuffs of oversized hoodie holding
Tired hands in a soft embrace.

Even as daylight fades,
Her lamp clicks off: the last few
Minutes of evening deserve to shine
Unchallenged, untamed by
Human artifice.

As the sky slowly darkens,
The glow moves to her heart,
Shining between heavy eyelids
As another day ends.

Beautiful...in more ways than one.

Serene. A pleasure.
