Military Propaganda by Chris Sorrenti
From around the world
Images and words
Surround us
Bombard
From every radio and TV
Tablet and desktop
The loudspeakers drone on and on
A steady diet of COVID-19
We’re given the latest updates
In the battle
Statistics both positive and grim
Messages of wisdom and reassurance
Orders from the High Command
Ten-hut!
Soldiers
Let’s march together
Six feet apart
Hut! One Two Three!
Hut! One Two Three!
And don't forget to
Wash those dirty hands!
Left Right Left!
Left Right Left!
Divided we survive
United we fall
Trying to reclaim the world
In the shadow of the dreaded second wave
While picking our way
Through the economic carnage
This is only the latest
Every 100 years war
So Babies and Boomers
Zoomers and Doomers
Gen X Y and Z
Together but Apart
We’re that next Greatest Generation
As History repeats itself
Though never exactly the same way

United we fall" - such an irony. Several of our neighbors had company today celebrating Memorial Day weekend. We'll see in a few weeks if Idaho numbers spike or decrease. At the moment the numbers climb steadily. Your poem reflects so well what is happening. |
