Victoria Day long weekend.
It’s finally starting to warm up out there...in more ways than one.
As with politics, pandemics can make for strange bedfellows.
Canada and China, who were at each other’s throat mere months ago,
over the detaining of Meng Wanzhou for the United States over Iran related
shenanigans, are cooperating to find a vaccine for COVID-19.
So much for conspiracy theories...let’s keep our fingers crossed.
Meanwhile, the two Michaels; Kovrig and Spavor, who were detained by China
on trumped up charges in retaliation for Wanzhou’s house arrest,
continue to languish in a Chinese prison, with no immediate release on the horizon.
Again, let’s keep our fingers crossed.
Although in China, where it all began, the numbers continue to go down,
Russia and the United States are a different story. The stats are truly grim.
As the curve is starting to flatten here in Canada, Ontario (including Ottawa),
is starting to let various kinds of businesses open their doors to the public.
Far from ‘business as usual’ though, many stores being creative in their approach
to the opening, factoring in social distancing.
The debate over making face masks mandatory continues,
with many donning them anyway. I don’t wear one yet,
but have started pricing them, just in case.
Hearts & Smiles.ca is selling a 10 pack of cotton masks for $90.
I was shocked at first at the price, but considering they’re washable and reusable,
one can always pass a few on to family and friends, it’s not so bad.
