Tonight
I won’t turn on the radio
or television
skip past the News
over several hours
I’m already familiar with the propaganda
been briefed on what the discussion’s all about
I’ve reached the saturation point
as so often before
recently
shaking off depression
again and again
tired of conspiracy theories
though looks like China
could have said something sooner
Trump’s cut off the WHO
Talk of mandatory face masks for everyone
maybe
Meanwhile
the elastic waistbands
in my long johns have begun to fail me
not to mention the holes
at home
standard attire along with T-shirts
except for summer
when the LJs give way to
all-purpose cotton or
combinations with rayon
shorts
Not sure if the clothing portion of Walmart
is open or only the groceries side
glad I got a haircut before everything went south
But as I like to say
the bills are paid
there’s food on the table
though every month
the dollar buys less than it did before
Too many now aren't as lucky
As new horror stories
come to the surface
daily
the fear is palpable
it’s not a nice taste
having abandoned my invincibility
as a younger man
it’s a terrible way to die

Posted by Kris Mara on 04/19/20 at 09:17 PM Always good to hear your words...but am wondering if there's a way to comment with a teardrop...because it's like reading all of the things that are always just below the surface. Stay safe (...and I have said that a million times this month, however sincerely...) |
