While the Rest of the World Stands Still

by Kristina Woodhill

Dandy lions again pop up and romp
within our south side growing bed

putting on their pretty skirts
all layered matte green,
hems edged with broad pinking shears

Their big yellow mouths roar
spring! spring! spring!

Two weeks from now
they'll quietly extend
their puffy white
miniature umbrellas

welcoming any rain
to their neighborhood

Swaying their gentle
come-hither
wind dance,
enticing the storm
