Adversus Deo by Brian Francis
The Bishop has shifted from here to there
A pervert priest preying among the flock
The secrets secured under oath and lock
He came to the church to show all his care
His job is to always keep safe the chair
The church must be saved for it is the rock
No matter the cost or code it does mock
For righteousness cannot always be fair
The wounded souls that they lost to their pride
That what they have done to the least of them
Showing faith on their sleeves and smiles sublime
Faith was destroyed for the child who cried
Hatred of God became cause and emblem
Worn also the robes of shame from the crime

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 03/08/20 at 11:11 PM Nice form for this theme. I like a lot of your phrasing and especially the alliterations in this line "Showing faith on their sleeves and smiles sublime". I like that you have the symbol "rock" in lower case. Also really like "robes of shame." On another front televangelist Jim Bakker has been told to quit advertising Silver Solution as a product claimed to cure coronavirus. |
Posted by Laura Doom on 03/10/20 at 06:18 PM Bishop's moves designed to keep the endgame unchecked; pawns for prayers, pray for the pawns.
A hard reign and a hard read. |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 04/08/20 at 04:46 PM Is this but a sordid chapter in the history of the Catholic Church or it is emblematic of the historical darkness? I am not sure. But your symbology and language set it out well, my friend. So sad. Yet there are still many many good people who still brave their way back to the pews, hoping, hoping, hoping. Thanks Brian. BTW you challenge me to again try a sonnet, the Petrarchan my favored form. |
