Leap Year Day

by Kristina Woodhill

February 29, 2020

    Leap
Leap            leap

          frog

kangaroos flee infernos

rabbits out looking for lucky feet

crickets peek out of cracks, wait for April

fleas' tiny leaps make tiny poofs
on backs of furry coats, oh, drat
whined the cat; oh, god, growled the dog

lovers choose whoopee instead

ballerinas push off with aplomb,
firmly grasping gravity's handle bar

long ago a cow showed astronauts how

a bungee cord of love might save some

wingsuit flyers all should have strong wills

conclusions consumed extra Wheaties,
added cushioning and sumo stances,
opened for business
and braced themselves

Love it from start to finish Kristina. Great write...fun read. Don't think I've read a leap year poem before.

Etiquette dictates that the duck keeps its thoughts to itself. Impressed that you identified a practical application for methanol.

A power play that deserves its overtime...
