File Clerk Blues

by Chris Sorrenti

for Cindy

Boredom

taunts the hours

of daylight

but there’s not

a lot

a file clerk

can do

even at eight bucks

an hour

I can’t stop

thinking

of you

While

money schemes

and

holiday scenes

headlines

and the weather

struggle for

my mind

in the

seven and a

half hours

still to

go

Why

should I

bother

writing of

of a person

that I

only see

once a day?

even if you are

a constant

source of

inspiration

I can’t stop

thinking

of you

And until

that time finally

arrives

all the

words

I write

to

celebrate you

can

only be

filed away

I really enjoyed the structure of this, that first word that says it all, that inner query. Thanks, Chris!
