Chinese Chess

by Chris Sorrenti

A little more complex than
the Checkers variety
but like traditional Chess
a jump up from the regular checkerboard

This game takes place
in the real world
on a global scale
and it goes like this
they kidnap our citizens
accuse our crops of contamination
ban Canola, pork...then beef

all because of an extradition treaty
rule of law
the possible theft of high technology
by them
spoiled little brats
due to centuries of imperial domination
think the world owes them everything
on a silver platter

and a woman named Meng Wanzhou

Hey
she wasn’t detained for shoplifting
you know
but that’s all right
drag us around the world as much as yah like
while our allies cower in their silence
but just remember this
Karma isn’t always a personal thing
and will soon spank your collective behinds

I really like the play with words of the title Chinese Chess. Takes us quickly into this dueling trade world we are all witnessing. Enjoyed the "collective behinds." Thanks!
