Misunderstood

by Thomas K. Hunt

Miles from the beginning there lies a simple fate
Is there time enough left?
Is it not too late?

Childhood girlfriends and boys
down with the sorrows and up with the joys
The true ones have each others hearts
They all came back to their own start

There's a life inside the darkness
separate from what you see
Nothing like the likeness
yet it's still all me

It's far from sight and most obscure
for the benefit of all
It's well secured you can rest assured
it's safe behind my wall

Misunderstood by many
Accepted by a few
Shunned by the majority
Rejected and persecuted too

Bones within a closet
locked behind the door
Peeking through the keyhole
just bones and nothing more

Wasted in the emptiness
The need to change the day
Lost in the loneliness
Keeping it all at bay

Trapped within the madness
The longing to be free
Searching for the courage
to live my life as me

Miles back to the beginning there's a place that lights the heart
The heart shines the brightest when it's back there at start
Seconds formed the hours that has lead me to this known
Heavy in the heart and the longing to go home

Oh man, I just love the way you make rhymes seem so natural and needed and unforced. I relate to the sentiments and that penultimate stanza does so pierce my heart. Thanks so much Thomas.

I agree with what Glenn says. The darkness in this just seems all the darker with the boost of rhyme and rhythm.
