(response to J.D. Clay's Limerick challenge at Pathetic.org)
I sometimes share poems quite old
written when I was youthful and bold
after much fixing up
and sure they won't flop
on the Internet I give them their posting
where a certain English major named Dupré
puts me over his knee
says the young turk
for him these poems just don't work
though fails to offer any helpful suggestions

Author's Note: Wasn’t long before Mr. Dupré was escorted off the site, as many including me complained about his snarky remarks. At one point, I did a Google search and discovered he has a degree in English Literature. As I recall he didn’t post any of his own poems, but was quick to tear apart others’ work. Troublemaker.

it seems the cap, gown, and certificate holder
buys a telescope and starts using it to see
loses the ability to write freely and bolder
become particularly adept at speaking in snark
so much easier than personally and intimately connecting
preferring critique than following a creative spark
becoming an expert not from practice but from correcting.
