I Never Saw It Coming

by Philip F De Pinto

I never saw it coming
and I never saw it go

I never saw you coming
and I never saw you go

But where you went I suspect
was to make a new beginning

leaving the end to fend for itself

A beginning which I will not see coming
and neither will I see you go

to make it

being too old a dog
to learn to gnaw on a new bone

Excellent work. I remember why I used to spend so much time here... an enjoyable, if wistfully miserable read.

Comings and goings and finding enjoying the creative spaces in between - maybe these are the lumber of the houses we poets build. Without mentioning death you give it a gentle wave goodbye with this simple poignant poem. Thanks for this Phil.
