clowns

by Nancy Ames

all the circuses
have been
shut down
(free the elephants!)
but suddenly now
there are
clowns
all over the place
and I guess
somebody must have
told them they
were going to
rule the world...
nope!... duh!
so yeah,
how ironic
is that, right?
you got to
laugh, right?
but the really
funny thing
about the clowns
is they have
absolutely no
sense of humour

Author's Note: one of the great paradoxes: people who take themselves too seriously look ridiculous

lol Good one Nancy! Dare I say, love the dry humor.

Until I read your poem, I had not even thought of this, but it is true, the most outstanding clowns are those with sad faces. One of the human ironies, perhaps - to find something to laugh at in our pitiful pathetic moments. Interesting strand to think about, Nancy. Isn't it delightful when a poem can be a kind of can opener for us, to let out the tears of sadness or joy. We need more poems like yours. Thanks.
